CALIFORNIA RESTAURANT MEALS PROGRAM FOR EBT HOLDERS (FOOD STAMPS) NOW CALLED SNAP

UPDATES BELOW - THIS IS ONE OF OUR MOST POPULAR POSTS - GOOGLE BLOGGER HAS CHANGED THE LOCATION OF LINKS ON A POST.  THE LINKS HAVE BEEN UPDATED MARCH 2013.

LINK HERE TO CALIFORNIA EBT CLIENT WEBSITE (Check your status, purchases, etc.)  THIS LINK INCLUDES  A LIST OF EBT FARMERS MARKETS.

If you are HOMELESS, DISABLED, or ELDERLY, and already qualifying for EBT (FOOD STAMPS) you may also be eligible to have some of your meals on the FOOD portion of your card so it will not take from your CASH BENEFIT.

We like to go to Jack in a Box and Subway, some Domino Pizza, and El Pollo Loco..

Here is the EL POLLO LOCO RESTAURANTS site link. (Provided due to food quality. We could only afford one meal a day at their prices especially since their prices have gone up.)

NOT ALL RESTAURANTS IN A CHAIN TAKE EBT and some do but their machines are broken so we get there and they tell us they can't take our order after all.  So if you can call ahead to ask if their machine is working.

Those restaurants who wish to serve us - those who own small independent restaurants - can sign up with the state and post a big EBT sign in the window. IF YOUR FOOD IS GOOD and YOUR PRICES are reasonable we will come!  Same thing with FARMERS MARKETS!

Please check to see if your local farmer's market is set up to take EBT... We find the prices are usually out of our range, but sometimes you can find better quality eggs for not too much more than say, Ralphs Grocery, and it may be worth it to spend maybe $10 a month on fruits and veggies.

UPDATE TO ONE OF OUR MOST POPULAR POSTS OCTOBER 2011: EBT IS NOW CALLED SNAP. We're seeing more mostly fast food restaurants taking SNAP including some Kentucky Fried and some Weinerschnitzel. WE ARE CONCERNED BECAUSE OUR FOOD ALLOWANCE IS ABOUT $5 a day and some of the full meals are MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THAT meaning this could be our ONE MEAL for the day. WE ARE ALSO CONCERNED BECAUSE OF THE HIGH SALT AND FAT CONTENT OF MOST FAST FOODS. Calorie counts are available in some cases.

LINK HERE for a list of LA County Restaurants taking EBT for hot meals
LAD SOCIAL SERVICES - RESTAURANTS TAKING EBT

****************************************************************************

PLEASE NOTI: ON OUR SIDE BAR WE ALSO HAVE A PAGE THAT GIVES PRETTY MUCH  THE SAME INFORMATION....  WE ALSO ENCOURAGE YOU TO CHECK OUT OUR PAGE ON TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR DIET EVEN WHEN LIVING IN POVERTY, and our LINKS to GROUPS SUCH AS AA, CA, and OVEREATERS ANONYMOUS!  THERE IS ALSO A LINK FOR ORANGE COUNTY...

TO RESEARCH EBT RESTAURANTS PUT THE NAME OF YOUR COUNTY INTO AN INTERNET SEARCH ENGINE along with the words FOOD STAMPS or SOCIAL SERVICES.  WHEREVER YOU ARE IN THE COUNTRY, that should bring up information that is about the COUNTY and STATE where you live!
*******************************************************************************

Please contact us through Comments if you know of any independents who take SNAP - we mean the FOOD PORTION not the CASH PORTION. We are looking for Chinese and Thai Food too!

The dollar menu prices have gone up and the prices for sides including veggies is too high for the portion size.

What about restaurants in Orange County, Ca. It's hard to find any place here that accepts the EBT cards.

You're right. We find that anywhere that there are few people actually using the EBT food benefits, there are few restaurants taken them. Its a hardship but you have to go to the poor side of town or maybe the more enlightened side of town.

WE PUT THE CALL OUT TO ALL OF YOU IN ORANGE COUNTY TO REPORT IN ON EBT RESTAURANTS.

Could you also check to see if the Orange County EBT web site has links like the LA County one does?
