It's been a very cold for Southern California season, with cold weather shelters that used to open mid October and stay open till March 15th, closing around March 1st this year, unless additional funds are paid for and other arrangements are made.
So for those who are newly homeless and have not been taken into a Year Round Program this is when panic sets in. Unlike homeless who have gotten more used to living on the streets (some say they "like" living that way) or who are seasonal laborers just using the shelters instead of paying for motels, these newly homeless, often people who have lost homes and apartments, are scared.
Social Workers at some Cold Weather Shelters will be giving updates, letters of referal, and other information to help. We want to wish you all the best of luck with this! We see no change in the economy that's big enough to put people with big holes in their resumes back to work.
