EXPOSE HOMELESSNESS BLOGSPOT -COMMUNITY SERVICE ON HIATUS - LOTS OF USEFUL INFORMATION TO BE FOUND HERE!

HELLO!  It's mid July 2017.  We see that lots of people are still coming to read EXPOSE HOMELESSNESS BLOGSPOT.  If you've been reading the NEWS here in LOS ANGELES COUNTY, then you know that the cost of housing has become impossible and that homelessness will continue to rise.  In the past several weeks we've given out the names of BTAK, MEND, and other places for showers and hot food so that some of the newly homeless we have met can at least take a shower.  The heat which is up to 111 degrees out there is killing for anyone who can't find themselves a library or other air-conditioned space to stay in all day.  DRINK LOTS OF WATER and STATION  YOURSELF NEAR A BATHROOM.  Go to "COOLING CENTERS!"  DO NOT STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE ALL DAY.  Let us know how you are doing!

HELLO EVERYONE!  It's the first week of MAY 2017.  We just dumped the spam that's been sitting in the comments for some time.  Google actually does a great job of Identifying Spam and so it's not a lot.  We did find some undetected spam in Comments that we also dumped.
However, we also found a Question attached to Questions for Homeless in our Pages that we feel sorry we didn't see right away and Answer.  The Question is about a family member who is NOT mentally ill but "likes to roam."  The family cannot find the person and wants to know if there is a "Homeless Registry" where they can find her.  So here is our answer.
No, Thank God and Goddess there is no Homeless Registry where people have to be named.  If there was one there is no doubt in our minds that it would be used to out people and by employers and credit checking companies and that whole damn big mess that makes it difficult for a person to have a second chance and start over.
However, if you want to see if the RED CROSS can help you find a family member, which they've been doing through and after wars for decades, then contact them. Having the person's Social Security Number will help loads.
Sadly, in our culture it's assumed that your "likes to roam" relative is not a hobo riding the rails having a good time but mentally ill, at least for some time.  It's assumed that anyone sane would do just about anything to have a roof over their heads and not be exposed to the elements and crime by going to a shelter - even though there isn't near enough shelter space.  Your relative has settled into being homeless and may actually like it, despite all the disadvantages.  And we think many homeless are not mentally ill but are encouraged by shelters to "play the game" and pretend to be so that the person can get some form of disability. Some people avoid shelters and housing programs because they don't want to give up their drugs or their drinking or some other aspect of their lifestyle.  Not to judge your relative without having ever even met them, but try not to be in denial about their condition!

HELLO EVERYONE. It's the third week of APRIL 2017 and we're checking in. It's great to see that this blog has been getting a great number of hits even though we're on vacation! As always, we pick up comments, which are monitored, so if you have something to say, go ahead. We read all comments and if you don't want your published, just say so!

HELLO EVERYONE!  It's MARCH 2017 and we noticed that our post ACTORS FACING HOMELESSNESS is getting a huge number of hits.  In this post we asked for comments by anyone who has benefitted by going to this nonprofit for housing.  We state that there is no need for MORE NONPROFITS that simply refer people to LA FAMILY HOUSING, PATH, or some other place, as there are already social workers in place to do referrals all over town.  Additionally, we want to say that we know the new Ordinance in the City of LA which banishes homeless sleeping in vehicles from any school, day care, park, or residential area (including mixed use apartment/commercial zones) is having a terrible, painful impact on this class of homeless who are one step above being on the pavement and grass in sleeping bags.  TERRIBLE!

HELLO EVERYONE! IT'S FEBRUARY 2017 and WE HAVE BEEN CHECKING IN FOR YOUR COMMENTS and WORKING ON THE INNARDS OF THIS BLOG. SO GLAD TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE USING THE INFORMATION HERE!

***************************************
To our homeless brothers and sisters and the citizen activists who seek to end Poverty and Homelessness in the United States of America.

Researching, writing, interviewing, designing, and producing this Blog has been a Community Service and a Labor of Love.  We've posted near 1,500 times in our effort to help you.  As our own lives became chaotic, exhausting, and sometimes frightening, we have endured to keep at it for eight years now.

We've experienced so many thoughts and feelings in the process:

The hope that we're helping others.  (If even one person has gotten off the street and has healed and is happy because of the information we've posted, it's been worth it.)

The frustration of learning about so many resources yet knowing that the crisis of homelessness in Southern California - and around the world - is an ongoing crisis and that all these nonprofits and charities, all the grassroots organizations and individuals who give of themselves - even it's just going out homemade peanut butter sandwiches - is NOT ENOUGH to eliminate the suffering.

The anger that turns into disgust that we feel when we learn about individuals - male and female - who have turned their lives over to a shelter or housing program in trust, who have been sexually harassed by case managers who even demand sex in exchange for housing, or had the money they saved for apartment deposits kept when they were kicked out, or who were in one of these programs for years waiting for their turn or chance, meanwhile loosing their health and even sanity in the process.

The shock of realization that we live in the Greatest and Richest country in the world, one that pats itself on the back for being "Christian," while homeless who are not Christian or religious are discriminated against because so many organizations want to convert you in exchange for helping you.  Our horror that anyone is allowed to be homeless while others enjoy such prosperity.  It's a complicated issue but it seems to us that the Rich and Powerful are allowing the Poorest of the Poor to be killed off, slowly.

THIS BLOG WILL REMAIN UP...

Since we began blogging the opportunities for people to do their own research, on free or prepaid cell phones, and at public service computers at libraries, has expanded.  There are information hot lines for city and county and other governmental resources (though we don't particularly care for them), and referrals for information and advice all over, sometimes an endless cycle of go-nowhere referrals. We know that we're not as needed as we once were but there is a lot of valuable information here at Expose Homelessness BlogSpot too, which you can continue to use, though as time goes by it needs to be updated.

We are taking a break but we will continue to:
* Check your comments, including Answers to the many Questions we have asked.
* Update links and video and eliminate those that are repetitive or truly defunct.
(We stopped working on our YouTube station a long time ago and it's time to let it go!)
* Work on the innards and make technology updates that are important, including simplifying our labels so that your search word choices bring up all the posts applicable and getting rid of nuisance robot hits that mostly come from Russia.
Update and add information to our Pages, which some people think of as our advice and opinions on how to best survive a shelter, deal with case managers, and use your EBT-SNAP funds to keep to a healthy diet.

ALSO WE WILL ADD MORE HOMELESS BLOGGERS and POVERY ACTIVIST BLOGS ON OUR LIST THAT WE HAVE ON THE SIDEBAR as we discover them.

Please, USE THE SEARCH FEATURE embedded in the side bar of this blog in order to bring up the information that you need, using words such as "shelter,"  "AIDS-HIV,"  or "Homeless Children," in order to access years worth of posts.  Then, go to the linked site or article for the latest information posted by that link.
