DENISSE MONTALVAN - AN INSPIRATION! HOME MADE JEWELRY SALES SUPPORT 350 ORPHANS ABROAD

SAN FERNANDO SUN COM. A "Mother" for 350 KIDS   by Alex Garcia According to the article:

DENISSE MONTALVAN came out of nowhere and slowly built a life in the United States.  Eventually she went to  El Camino College in Torrance and Cal State Dominguez Hills to study Communications and PR.  She's worked many odd jobs and used financial aid to help pay for classes and books.
She has said, "I could relate to feeling abandoned and not having anybody to help you."

In 2011 she came upon the idea that she could recreate old, broken jewelry and sell it to her friends.

in 2012 she registered "THE ORHANED EAARING" as a non profit and has raised $50,000 to go to orphanages in Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Rosarito Mexico.  She visits once a year, every 2 months to the one in Rosarito.

"She celebrates their birthdays, provides school supplies, and sends monthly cash donations, and when she's there, helps bathe them and brushes their hair.  She also promises that if they remain in the institution (rather than going with men who will try to seduce them and turn them into prostitutes), and do well in school, and take care of each other, she will give each girl a quinceanera, when she turns 15.  She goes personally to do their hair and makeup.

"It's that 'someone cared for me' feeling wanted, that will change their life.

"I sleep five hours a night, I go home and make bracelets, key chains, and rings."

50 SQUATTERS LIVE AT LA GUARDIA AIRPORT NEW YORK

NY POST 50 HOMELESS SQUATTERS LIVE AT LAGUARDIA AIRPORT NEW YORK
Danielle Furfaro, Philip Messing and Georgett Roberts

(The language used in this article gives the reader the clear idea that the homeless are hated.)

At least 50 homeless people live inside the airport’s Terminal B, which anyone can get into without passing through security, sources said.

On one night last week, men and women were sacked out on cardboard that they had spread out over warm vents on the floor, a reporter observed. Others were curled up on chairs near Air Canada while televisions blared above their heads. A few were bunched together in couples, but most were solo and kept their distance from others.

Meanwhile, passengers tried to keep as far away as possible while they waited for their flights.

BI POLAR? - NATIONAL INSTITUTE MENTAL HEALTH has LATEST UPDATES ON MENTAL ILLNESS

NIMH - NATIONAL INSTITUTE MENTAL HEALTH  lots of info including the latest on a variety of mental illnesses.

EXCERPT:

Three types of symptoms emerged as powerful predictors of whether a youth with one parent with bipolar disorder will go on to develop the disorder, according to a study of 391 at-risk youth. The findings offer a much more specific roadmap than previously available for assessing risk of bipolar disorder early in at-risk youth, and one that is based on symptoms, not traditional psychiatric diagnoses. The symptoms identified—related to anxiety/depression, affective lability (unstable mood, including irritability), and low-level manic symptoms—also provide insight into what may be a high-risk syndrome or “prodrome” preceding the onset of bipolar spectrum disorder.
People with bipolar disorder experience marked, often extreme shifts in mood and energy. The disorder affects an estimated 2.6 percent of Americans. Someone with bipolar disorder experiences periods of depression alternating with periods of mania, a state marked by high energy, overconfidence, and frantic activity. The mood swings can severely disrupt a person’s ability to function normally; as many as 15 percent of those affected die by suicide. Despite this, there are often years-long delays before an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Research has suggested that a bipolar prodrome might precede the emergence of bipolar disorder by several years; the hope is that identifying the features of the prodrome could help guide an understanding of how the disorder emerges, and enable earlier detection and more timely and effective treatment.

A PHYSICAL ADDRESS IS NEEDED.***

Our volunteer called 1-866-602-8861 to find out about CALIFORNIA's LOW COST AUTO INSURANCE.  Here's what he found out.

1) The state itself does not insure the vehicle.  They have a pool of companies that they send the paperwork to,

2) You must have a valid California Driver's License.

3) Your vehicle must be valued at $25,000 or less.

4) You must meet income requirements.  $29, 700 a year for a single driver.

5) Be at least 19 years old.

6) Depending on the county you live in your YEARLY (ANNUAL) Insurance cost will be from $213 to $472.

7) You must have 3 years of good driving history.  (Recent 3 years.) So this isn't helpful to someone who is just now getting an old vehicle.

BIKES - SAN FERNANDO VALLEY RESCUE MISSION! FLEET STREET BIKE PROGRAM REPAIRS RESELLS

RECYCLED BICYCLES BRING HOPE - SAN FERNANDO VALLEY RESCUE MISSION

THE SALE OF THE REPAIRED BIKES HELP FUND HOMELESS SERVICES

FROM THEIR SITE:
"Fleet Street’s bicycle mechanics include residents of Pacific Lodge Youth Services in Woodland Hills who are trained by dedicated volunteers. The young men ages 13 to 18 are in the juvenile justice system and Fleet Street, a non-profit organization, provides them with a meaningful vocational program that builds skills as well as character.
Fleet Street’s Dana Sherman, their President Steve Musnicky, and San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission director Wade Trimmer built on their relationship to create a winning partnership. We typically receive over 100 bikes per month through our mission Thrift Stores, but most of them really need work in order to be safe and sellable. The young men from Pacific Lodge are fixing them and then we sell them in our Reseda store, with proceeds supporting both the Mission and Fleet Street.
The boys gain valuable work experience, our homeless outreach programs get a much-needed boost through the sale proceeds, and the customer gets a quality bike for a very reasonable price, with a 90-day guarantee. It’s really a win-win-win! We are so grateful to Fleet Street for our partnership on this."

We suggest that if you NEED A BIKE you call San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission!

BERNIE SANDERS ON POVERTY IN AMERICA - WEST VIRGINIA SPEECH

https://berniesanders.com/bernie-sanders-poverty-mcdowell-county-west-virginia/

EXCERPT: In the United States today, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, 47 million Americans are living in poverty.

Almost 22 percent of American children are poor and we have the highest childhood poverty rate of any major country on earth.

Let’s be clear.  Living in poverty doesn’t just mean you don’t have enough money to buy a big screen TV, a fancy laptop computer, or the latest version of the iPhone.

It goes much, much deeper than that.  In America today, being poor not only means you are less likely to have a grocery store in your community selling healthy food, far too often it means you don’t know where your next meal is going to come from.  In fact, 15 million children in America today are living in families that struggle to put enough food on the table.

Living in poverty means you are less likely to have access to a doctor, a dentist, or a mental health care provider.  And if you are lucky enough to see a doctor it means you are less likely to afford the prescription drugs a doctor prescribes to you.  In fact, one out of five Americans between the ages of 18-64 cannot afford to fill their prescription medication at a drug store.

Living in poverty means you are less likely to have access to public transportation — which makes it harder to find a job.

It means you are less likely to have access to child care.  And you are more likely to do drugs and engage in self-destructive activities....

BERNIE SANDERS TALKS POVERTY

CBS NEWS BERNIE SANDERS SUDDENLY (?!) TALKING ABOUT POVERTY  full article
(To us he's always been talking about the economy and the need for more for us!)

EXCERPTS:

In Indiana on Monday, he pointed out that 21 percent of children in the state are living in poverty -- and in many states he has been even more expansive, emphasizing less the lack of access to material goods than to life expectancy...

He added that 15 neighborhoods in Baltimore have lower life expectancies than in North Korea -- and two of them have a higher infant mortality rate than in the West Bank...

On Apr. 26, five states held primaries. Sanders' solitary win that day was Rhode Island, where he talked about 1 in 10 children in the state living in poverty. Yet Sanders lost the four other battles, and in each of those states he talked extensively about poverty in a locally-focused way...

At an outdoor rally in Oregon last week, Sanders pointed out that nearly 20,000 public school students under the age of 18 are homeless in the state and that a quarter of the children in the state live in households without adequate access to food.

Sanders is now talking about poverty everywhere he goes. With a poverty rate of about 16 percent, Oregon is not a special case. According to the Census Bureau, about 14.5 percent of Americans live in poverty nationwide, or more than 45 million people.
