The organization is fund raising in order to provide vocational training for Congolese women, open a burn treatment center, provide education for children, medical treatment, and so on. A worthy cause, but one more organization that is going to the rescue of people in other countries while there is so much that needs to be done here. 5.4 million people have been killed in Darfur, Sudan since 1996. That's terrible but it is also the problem of the SUDANESE. This organization says they will work on genocide worldwide. We hope that includes the United States.
SOME OF US SEE THE WAY HOMELESS PEOPLE ARE TREATED AS A FORM OF ETHNIC CLEANSING OR GENOCIDE HERE IN THE UNITED STATES. ALLOWED TO SICKEN AND DIE ON THE STREETS. LIVING IN THE 3rd world RIGHT HERE!

A LUKE BRAUN / KYLE LAFFEY/ LOYOLA MARYMOUNT DOCUMENTARY ABOUT LOS ANGELES HOMELESSNESS
This film focuses on the street homeless or "chronically homeless" who have drug/alcohol and/ or mental illness, which by one person on the film is 70 to 90 % of the homeless. Do these two conditions go hand in hand?
WHAT ABOUT FAMILY THAT CAN'T COPE OR WON'T HELP?
We'd say a lot of homeless are in that situation of long ago being kicked out of a family but in some cases that isn't because they were the sickest person in the family but the HEALTHIEST!
We know of situations where people who were not mentally ill were pressured to "go mental" as well. How long on the street can anyone cope without becoming a little crazy?

SAMARATIN CENTER OF SIMI VALLEY : A UNITED WAY FUNDED AGENCY
We're getting lots of hits on our SIMI VALLEY POSTINGS. That means that people aren't just curious. They are in Simi Valley and homeless or they're thinking of leaving Los Angeles County for someplace that's less difficult. Simi Valley has a local reputation for being relatively crime free. Why? Because a whole lot of firemen and police officers live there themselves.
We're posting this link to Samaratin Center. We notice that this is a United Way Agency but they also are religious.
Our questions would be, how do you treat people who are not Christian or who are secular humanists - who are maybe through with religion? Do you force homeless people to go to bible studies or be prayed over in order to receive services?
Do you give people who are Christian or open to bible studies or being prayed over more help? WE HOPE NOT! ESPECIALLY NOT BECAUSE THE UNITED WAY IS FUNDING THIS!
As always, any homeless person who wants to report back to us on how they were treated can leave a comment.

SWIPES FOR HOMELESS - UCLA STUDENTS GIVING THEIR UNUSED FOOD TO FOOD INSECURE FELLOW STUDENTS AND LOCAL HOMELESS - TEXAS STATE DOES TOO!
"On any given night in Los Angeles County, an estimated 82,000 people are homeless, comprising one of the largest homeless populations throughout the country. Thirty-three to fifty percent of the individuals are females, twenty to forty-three percent are families, and six to twelve percent are unaccompanied youth."
ATTENTION: If you have an urgent matter or a media inquiry, please call (818) 518-3240 or email bryan@SwipesForTheHomeless.org
It's very important that students TALK to homeless people. It's easy to do that on campus, but making an effort to talk to people on the street is important too. Homeless people often suffer social isolation and humiliation.

NATIONAL ENQUIRER EXPOSES ONCE HOMELESS CELEBRITIES
Celebrities have been outed as once homeless by the National Enquirer, March 26th, 2012 edition, pages 30 to 31. We'll add these to the list you see on the sidebar... HILARY SWANK; lived with mom in Oldsmobile. HALLE BERRY; lived in a shelter. JIM CARREY; he and his family lived in Volkswagen van. DANIEL CRAIG; on bench in London park. DAVID LETTERMAN; lived in 1973 red Chevy Pick up. WILLIAM SHATNER; lived in pickup with back walk in camper. SHANIA TWAIN; Toronto shelters. SLY STALLONE; Port Authority bus station (until he made money in a porn film). DREW CAREY : car in Vegas. Article by Don Gentile. Hey, THANKS DON! CELEBRITIES who made it show us that it is possible.
By the way, we believe when it comes to people you know or suspect of being homeless or having been homeless it is NOT cool to "out" them. Celebrities in show business deal with not having much privacy as terms and conditions of fame. Regular people are just trying to make it. We don't need to be hurt worse by being unable to get or keep a job or anything else based on homelessness.

IS A CASE MANAGER LETTING YOUR ROOM MATES ABUSE YOU?
Nothing like making it off the street into a shelter, thinking you'll be safe, and finding yourself abused by one or more roommates, and having an unprofessional, incompetent, unqualified case manager who refuses to handle it.
We hear about this all the time. We've met people who said they couldn't handle a shelter who are living in their cars instead. We've met people who say they ran to security guards who we're corrupt individuals themselves.
Unless a person is safe in a shelter, the word SHELTER is inappropriate!

LOS ANGELES COUNTY HOUSING : CRIMINAL BACKGROUND NO LONGER AN OBSTACLE IN SOME CASES
We heard this breaking news on KFI in the morning and we sure hope that Bill Handle and his staff that have had so much fun about homeless people are now a little more sensitive (see past posts on KFI!)
"Supervisors approve a plan allowing some parolees and probationers the first chance at Section 8 vouchers for federal housing. Officials say the rule seeks to aid low-level offenders" ...
"The housing authority is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to update its program goals, policies and financial resources every year. Four of five Los Angeles County supervisors last week approved the agency's revised plan.Among other changes, the new plan waives a long-standing ban on homeless probationers and parolees obtaining housing subsidies and cuts the criminal history review period for such applicants from three years to two.Critics of the revision charge that it is unfair to give criminals a chance to find affordable shelter before other needy people, such as senior citizens and the disabled. There are an estimated 191,000 individuals on a waiting list for vouchers, according to housing authority data."
LEAVE COMMENTS! WE KNOW SOME OF YOU WHO ARE WAITING FOR SECTION 8 VOUCHERS AND NO CRIMINAL HISTORY ARE PISSED OFF! According to Bill Handle show, these vouchers will be used not just for any landlord but in buildings considered to be projects (our words.)

SANTA MONICA : PARKING GARAGE, UNDER THE PEER, ON THE SAND, OR IN A SHELTER?
Santa Monica California, a city on it's own, has a reputation for being THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF SANTA MONICA, but is that true or did it stop being that years ago, say at the end of the 1960's? This is a link to what the city has to offer in services to the homeless.
